Gone

Rosemary
1950-2009

My mum died last week. For many years she battled type 2 diabetes and all the things that go along with that, and just two years ago she suffered the first of several heart attacks. I knew the end was near, but it was still shocking and heartbreaking. I've never grieved like this before, and I'm kind of surprised by the profound sadness and anger I'm feeling. I hope it goes away soon.

If you do the math, you'll see that my mum was relatively young. She never really took her disease seriously, and in fact, she ignored her diagnoses for a decade. I wish she had quit smoking and adopted a healthful lifestyle years ago. I know it would have greatly extended her life or at least improved the quality of it. I'm not going to choose the same path that she did. I hope you won't either.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing your mother is hard - I remember the grief being overwhelming for quite a while afterwards. It does get easier over time though, so just allow yourself to grieve and come to terms with things in your own time. Take care.

Oh Leah, I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I cannot give wise words from experience, like Karen.

Thank you for your words about choosing a different path for your health and I hope those words will help others too.

Take care!

Hi Leah! I stopped in to say thank you so much for your kind comment about the thread box. I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I still have my mother and cannot imagine loosing her. I did loose my father at far too young an age. He was only 59 and very sick. I can promise you that the sadness and anger will get better but you will always miss her. I find missing my father now after all these years only helps me feel still connected with him. So yes, it does get better. My deepest sympathies to you!

Hugs ~
Heidi

I'm also very sorry for you loss. I lost my mom when she was only 48, and it was one of the hardest times I have ever gone through. Just as the others have said, time is your friend, and slowly your heart will heal. I wish you strength to get through these next few weeks and months,

We lost my brother a month ago to a tragic car accident...and although the anger will fade, the sadness, lessens but never leaves...I still grieve for my grandparents and aunt and they died in: 2000, 2002, 2003....Please know that I am thinking of and praying for YOU and your family. May she rest in peace. God Bless you.

My most sincere condolences. No matter how much we 'know' that the end is coming for one of our loved ones, it's still shocking when it actually arrives (or at least it was for me with my mother). You and your mother are in my prayers.

I'm so sorry Leah! One of the hardest things that I have ever gone through was losing my mother. Give yourself time, I think it took me a year to be able to talk about her without crying. Your memories will help you get through this time and to know that she is always with you.
